Crochet Materials & Tools
You need less equipment than most beginner shopping lists suggest.
A comfortable hook, suitable yarn, scissors and a simple way to keep notes are enough for the first stage. Buy more tools when a real project gives you a reason.

Choosing yarn
For early practice, choose yarn with clear stitch definition. Very fuzzy, slippery or extremely dark yarn can make beginner mistakes harder to see.
Choosing a hook
The hook size should suit the yarn and feel comfortable in your hand. Expensive does not automatically mean better for a new learner.
Useful extras
Stitch markers, a tape measure, yarn needles and small scissors become helpful quickly, but they are support tools rather than prerequisites.
